Revolutionizing Healthcare: The Evolution of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Sector and Its Transformative Impact on the Health Profession
Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) AI is certainly one of the most impactful technologies on healthcare today: While in its infancy, AI is solving for long-standing issues in the field, and opening doors to new horizons. Machine learning algorithms have been employed to advance and improve diagnosis (particularly in radiology and pathology), and to gain insight into the risk of individuals developing specific diseases (including cancer and cardiovascular disease). This is allowing an opportunity for the healthcare professionals to pre-plan and seed their sequence of actions for better patient care which is highly valuable in resource-poor environment.
AI also offers promise for drug discovery, emerging infectious disease management, and the high-level automation that can result in system-wide clinician fatigue. But ethical concerns – such as data security, patient confidentiality, and algorithmic bias – continue to plague the technology. Meeting these challenges necessitates strong interprofessional partnership among clinicians and data scientists to create human-centered, equitable, and clinically-relevant AI.
A deep understanding of the capabilities and limitations of AI should guide its integration into medicine and surgery as it continues to evolve. By encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations, they can embrace AI while ensuring patient care is at the forefront, and thus the way we care for patients can be transformed.
